Direct This Moment

From the moment you awaken—begin to guide your day. Choose the direction you will move from moment to moment. Take control of now and where you are heading.

If you just drift, you will certainly wind-up somewhere—and you may or may not like it. Focus on the details of your day, and decide where you want to go. Keep your mind moving in the direction you’d most like.

Your gigantic subconscious mind is a random accessing device. If allowed, it will just roam endlessly into all manner of thought fields. Some fun and uplifting, some dark and detrimental. The more you can keep it in the positive, and away from the defeating or negative, the more likely you will experience a rich and fulfilling life.

You must make a commitment within yourself to step-up to managing your life and situations you encounter.

Nearly thirty years ago, the seven year old daughter of a close friend of mine, made what I consider a very wise statement, that I’ve not forgotten to this day. Her dad and I were talking with her about a subject she was struggling with in school. We’d made a couple suggestions, and she had responded with what she thought of those ideas.

It was quiet for a moment, then she looked at us and said, “I promise myself I will work on this until I’m really good at it!”

That statement stopped me cold. I’d heard many adults and children “promise” someone else they would do something—but this was deeper, wiser and more powerful. This little girl “got it” that the vow, the commitment, the promise, is really to oneself first! I’d never really thought about it so simply before. From the mouth of a child….

Make the commitment to yourself to experience and move with purpose through your “moments of life”. Don’t wait for circumstances to drag you along haphazardly. You get little accomplished, and will feel out of control. So take control back into your hands!

Form action plans, clarify the steps to your desired goal or desired feeling, move on them without whims tugging you off balance. They may not work out exactly the way you planned—so what. Review, revise, move on.

When the unexpected arises, use your mind and proactively choose what you will do. Respond from your own inner power and focus, instead of just letting fears or concerns lead you into procrastination or ineffectiveness.

Your time is now. This moment is a unique moment and is ready for you to fill it up with amazing thoughts, feelings and experiences. You decide what it will be. Fill it with lasting value and energizing actions.

Today has incredible possibilities. The only real inhibitors to what today can be, are your mental limitations or lack of action. Choose your focus wisely. Make a commitment—a promise—to yourself to do your best, then go for it! Make what you do as good as you can do it, and you will have days filled with moments worth remembering.
