Times To Use The Motivation Strategy

Here are a few times this can be used very effectively to get you going.

One is to get going when you want/need to get start on a task or project.

The second is, if you are getting ready for something the next day. You can do this the evening before to set yourself up, for kick-starting the next morning and then when morning arrives you do it again and start.

Or third, if you have a large task and you find yourself getting bogged down, feeling like quitting. You pause, you run through this, “Won’t it be great to have this done? Yes! It will be!” You then see it done, see the secondary gains. You then in your mind think/vow “I’m going to do it now! It’s going to happen now!” And you feel that positive feeling inside—AND YOU START! Just like that.

Here are a few examples of ways people I’ve taught this to have used this strategy. A college student I worked with had probably one of the messiest houses you’ve ever seen. He used this to motivate himself to clean it up. There was an attorney who detested research. He used this to get himself going on doing research. There was a high school student who had a tough time studying subjects that she didn’t like, e.g., math and science specifically. She would run through the strategy, sit down and just take off and get her studies done. An executive used it for getting ready to present to the board of directors. He absolutely dreaded it. But after using this he felt jacked-up, confident and ready to go.

There are hundreds of ways you can use this. Part of it is you have to think about what it is you want to do, then you do this just before you’re ready to start.

These are the “Motivation Strategy” basics:

“Won’t it be nice to have it done? Absolutely Yes!”

See it done! Envision it completed with the collage of the secondary gains.

Affirm emphatically in your mind that vow. “This is going to happen! It’s going to happen right now!

Feel that positive energy, that win of completion. Feel how good it feels to SEE IT DONE AND HAVE IT DONE!

See, hear, feel all at the same time

And start right not! Take action! Don’t hesitate. While you have that positive feeling you get from experiencing it done—BEGIN!

This takes seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds maybe. But you do that, and then you start. The motivation formula is for tasks that you want or need to do that maybe you don’t want to.

Practice It Right Now Before Going On….

I want you right now, just for a moment before we go any further with this, to think about this process. I don’t care if it’s a big thing, whether it’s cleaning your house, whether it’s writing a memo, whether it’s answering an email, whether it’s making a phone call, whether it’s speaking up in a meeting. Think of something you want to do today but you don’t really feel like doing. So now I want you to run through this process.

Ask yourself Won’t it be nice to have this done? Again, what’s the right answer? Yeah, absolutely! Won’t it be nice to have this done? Yes!

See it done. Not the process, not starting, not in the middle, just finished.

Notice how you feel when you think about it being completed and see the positive things that have come out it. See those positives that come from having it done. Maybe this is only one or two things, but there’s never just one thing. See it done and the secondary gains.

Also, in your mind affirm “I’m going to do this!” It’s going to happen right now! It’s a given I’m going to do it, right now! Let’s go!”

And feel how good it feels inside as you see, hear, and affirm to yourself that it’s happening. You feel more like doing it, right?

That is how motivation starts. This is the Motivation Strategy used by those people who can fire themselves up and get themselves going any time anywhere.

Everyone I’ve taught this to agrees that the more you use, it the stronger it gets, and the faster it works. No matter how strongly you felt it this first time, keep doing it. Don’t get bogged down with details as you run the Motivation Strategy. Getting yourself going is often the hardest part. You probably know the actions to take to do the task—don’t worry about them—just focus on the finish! Begin to generate enthusiasm to get you going.

This strategy only takes seconds to a minute. It’s fast. The first time or two it may take a little longer but not much. It may take a few repetitions. You can do it multiple times, go through it again and again.

I recommend that you stand because you feel stronger and more powerful. Stand like superman. Take on that physiology of Yes, I can do this! When you take on that physiology, as you repeat this to yourself, as you practice and see this, in a short time you’re going to understand the subtleties of it and it becomes much more powerful for you.
