Let Love Guide All Your Actions

In an interview in 1970, John Lennon said, “We’ve got this gift of love, but love is like a precious plant. You can’t just accept it, and leave it in the cupboard, or just think it’s going to get on by itself. You’ve got to keep watering it. You’ve got to really look after it and nurture it.”

What a concept. Nurture love? But don’t you always do that? Well, let’s see….

Do you on-goingly nurture your love for doing a high quality job? To really nurture it, you must go beyond just doing the job well. You must think positive, good thoughts about it. You must talk to others about your love for what you do, and you must also look and act in such a way that your love shows.

Do you treat others with love? Even if they aren’t having the best of days? Now that’s a hard one, right? “You’re tellin’ me that I have to be pleasant, respectful and control myself when dealing with that pinhead!” Yep, them too.

Because if you don’t come from a congruent, loving place – you lose. Your irritation with them takes its toll on you! The anger you carry is much more harmful to your mind and body than it is to them.

Don’t let them push your buttons. If they do, they just got control of your brain. You take care of you by being your best self, all the time, with everyone – because even if they don’t notice – it’s good for you.

You’ve also got to water the love for yourself everyday. Who knows your flaws, fears, doubts any better than you do? Absolutely no one…….

Even with all your imperfections, you are a valuable, deserving human being. If you don’t take time to remind yourself many times a day of the wins you’ve had, and the contributions you’ve made, your love for self will fade.

In the early 1970’s the artist Peter Max illustrated a small book titled “Love” that was filled with brightly colored images, containing just a few words for each image. Every now and then I pull it off my bookshelf to remind me.

Toward the end of the book there was a series of images. The words under them said “Move in love…. Breathe in love…. Think in love…. Eat in love…. Work in love…. Be the embodiment of love…. Each moment of every day…..”

Who wins when you love? Everyone fortunate enough to cross your path. But especially you, because you are the one experiencing that amazing internal state.

Best of Success, Larry
