(…continued from last week)

One of the things that also assists with harmony is to love unconditionally. Love because it’s appropriate to do so. When you don’t expect anything back, it makes it easier to love without fear. When we love with conditions attached to them, score keeping in effect, our unmet expectations create an inner turmoil and feelings of resentment. Insecurities break that unconditional love, you should just give it all the time.

Now there are different levels of it. The love you have for someone who is your life partner is very different than it would be for someone you just met on the street. You can still act in a manner of love and gratitude and give what you can to those people. You love in a way that supports you and supports them also. You give some of that which makes a difference to you and to the world around you.

Take time to listen to music. Listen to music that is uplifting.

Have you ever heard a piece of music that lifted you up? You got chills from it? It made you feel wonderful? Listen to that, that’s good for you.

Those chills are your body’s reaction, a neural chemical experience that is actually very helpful for you. Getting more of that through your day will assist you in being stronger and lasting longer. Music has the ability to raise us up, it has the ability to charm us, it has the ability to make us feel things we would not feel in any other way. Music is a joy of life.

If you are so busy you are not listening to music, find a way to bring it into your world. As you are driving, as you do chores, while working, as you relax at home. Listen because music lifts you up and helps you experience more.

Be kind. It’s free, it doesn’t hurt anybody. Often when we show kindness, it gives us a boost too. Be kind to the people around you, it’s often hardest when someone has let you down or when they’ve committed to doing something and then they don’t do it. What we need to do is make certain that we are kind.

Treat people with kindness, soften your words, soften your look, be at ease in the way that you treat people, that softness assists others in being the same way in treating others. We need to find times when we can allow ourselves to be at ease and be kind to the people and the situations we encounter.

James Russell Lowell said, “Let us be of good cheer. Remembering that the misfortunes hardest to bear are those which will never happen. And remember to be kind always, to others.”

The Buddha said, “There are few steps to living a noble path. They are – the right view, right thought, right speech, right behavior, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness and right concentration.” All of those imply that they are within your control, you can do something about them. You need to make certain that you are doing those things that can really make a difference.

An aspect that really allows you to break free is play. Do something to lighten up your life!

Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “We do not quit playing because we grow old, we grow old because we quit playing!”

You need to frolic at least occasionally. You need to do something fun, you have to laugh, behave playfully, uninhibitedly, play with your friends. It sounds silly but it makes a difference, it opens up your heart and opens up your mind. All work, no play will stress you out. Take time to do things that you enjoy.

Inject fun into situations that maybe aren’t particularly enjoyable, try and look at them from a new way. Bring some music into them, approach life with more of a playful attitude. When did you last let the little child part of you come out? It’s been a while probably, quit being such an adult and go out there and play a bit. It’s really good for you both mentally and physically.

Victor Hugo said, “Laugher is the sun that drives the winter from the human face.”
