The Power of Perspective – Overcoming Inertia

Life is hard sometimes – is it not? That’s unfortunate, but it’s also just – so what….

The level of difficulty of your experience is the result of your perspective. One student may think staying up and studying all night so they do well on an exam is really hard, while another doesn’t see it as hard at all – it’s just what needs to be done.

Action is just action. Whether it’s difficult or not is frequently determined by the way you look at it, and by your self-talk. You are either taking action or you are not taking action.

If you interviewed two people straining with the same amount of force to move a boulder and you asked them how hard it was – their answer in many ways would depend on their attitude.

If one was complaining, whining and cursing the boulder and bemoaning their rotten luck at having to move the rock, they most likely will rate that task as much harder than would the person who is out there just going for it hard as they can.

To excel at your chosen endeavor is going to require effort. And, it’ll take time. Yet the energy, effort and time you expend on this task are only troublesome when you focus your mind that way. To a major degree, it’s all about your chosen perspective and thinking pattern.

Instead of making yourself crazy over how hard you’ve got it – knock it off, and just get on with it! Step up and be proactive. Quit pondering the negative and move it!

It’s like the physics Law of Inertia, “A body at rest tends to stay at rest unless acted upon; and a body in motion tends to stay in motion, unless acted upon.” So, put your body in motion….

Let go of the negative thinking pattern about the experience. Do what you can as well as you can, knowing that if it’s not perfect you can make corrections to it later.

Even if it’s tough, focus on the positive, think about the end result you desire, and keep moving See even a little progress that’s made as a win – because it is. Choose the “glass half full” perspective. It’s more motivating along the way and feels much better.
