4 Attitudes for a Better Life

Life is too short to waste time resenting or hating anyone. Will people disappoint you? Will they commit to something and then not do what they said they would? Do others say things or act in ways that are hurtful? That is just them—don’t get caught up in their drama.

Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does. This is your life. Is it going the way you’d hoped? If not then do something else. Others may not agree with all you do, that makes no difference—this is your movie. Direct it the way you want it to go. Will there be glitches—of course! You will have to do some editing. Do it. Move on to the next scene.

You don’t have to win every argument. Most of us believe we are right. We’ve got the right point of view. I’m recalling that memory correctly. This IS what you said. That is the correct way to do that—not the way you are doing it. Unless a major catastrophe is going to occur if you do it their way, it may be ok to let them do what they want, and learn from their experience. You probably won’t argue them into your point of view anyway.

Make peace with your past so it doesn’t spoil your present. Beating yourself up because you screwed up doesn’t help. Learning, growing, adapting, resolving to not do X again all can help. Carrying your past around will bleed a bit of your energy to make today a great day. Make a decision that if something from the past arises you’ll just deal with it and keep moving. Let the past be the past, live fully in the present.
