If breathing is so good for us, we need to spend a little bit of time with it. I’m going to teach you a brief exercise that works very well. I have taught this to tens of thousands of people, through seminars, during counseling, etc. This is a piece of cake. It’s so easy anybody can do it.

Breathe Your Brainwaves Calmer

Here’s how to use the “Seven Down To One Count Breathing Process”. You can do this any time you want. You can do it driving, taking a shower, sitting on the toilet, laying in bed, having dinner, talking to friends. You can do it anywhere. But if you want to do it the deepest, close your eyes.

Some people say, “Oh I can’t visualize anything.” Yes you can. For instance, if I say ‘red apple’, do you know what a red apple looks like? Certainly you do. I know you have at least some idea what it looks like. You may not see it vividly and distinctly but you know what it looks like; that’s a visualization.

Okay, so you picture the number 7 in your mind, however you want to see it. When I personally do this, I imagine a big 7 that’s either bright red or bright yellow, and is three-dimensional. It’s huge. You can almost get a hold of this thing. So imagine the number 7. Then take in a breath that’s just a little deeper than normal. Hold it for a moment or two, and as you exhale, mentally tell yourself, “Relax and let go.”

Then you take a normal breath in and out.

You next see the number 6. Take in a breath that’s a little deeper than normal, hold it a moment, and as you exhale tell yourself “Relax and let go.” Then take a normal breath, in and out.

You see the number 5. Deep breath in, hold it a moment, and as you exhale just tell yourself “Relax and let go”. Then 4, 3, 2, and 1.

You now have a basic idea of how to do it. And again, you can do this driving your car, if you’re lying at home, if you’re walking down the street, you can do this anytime, anywhere. Just imagine the numbers floating in front of you, and breathe.

Just try this right now. This works! In your mind, imagine the number 7. While you’re holding the picture of the 7, just take in a long, slow deep breath. Comfortable. Hold it a moment, and now as you exhale just think to yourself, “Relax and let go.” And feel your shoulders drop. Feel your back muscles unwind. Let your neck just become relaxed and at ease. Then take a normal breath. In and out. Great. So simple. Now just take a normal breath, and relax even more fully.

Just keep going, from 6 down to the number 1.

After…

And just notice, pay attention for just a moment, and note how much more relaxed your body truly is right now. When you think to yourself ‘let go and relax’, while you breath and give yourself that little extra boost of oxygen, your mind and your body work together to let go of the tensions and the other thoughts. It’s kind of like taking a mental break.

This is absolutely good for your heart, your health, your hormones, your immune system; this is good for you in all ways. It takes about a couple minutes to do; you can do this multiple times a day. The more you do it, the better it will work, the more relaxed and at ease you will become. That’s right. Excellent. Excellent.

You can carry this same relaxed feeling with you through everything you do the rest of your day. Just notice your physiology, notice your breathing. Walk through the rest of your day with this. It is a choice, and you can do that.
