The Challenge of Change

Without change we’d still be forced to live in caves. (Unless of course you’ve found a cave you really like, and moved in recently.) Change results from dissatisfaction of some sort. You are tired of the old, or desirous of something new or different. Everything you see around you is the result of discontent with status quo. The light bulb, car, frozen food, nylon, water bed, on and on, are all the result of wanting something different or discontent on some level with what exists.

Yet, though we desire change, it is frequently uncomfortable when we experience it. It can be downright scary, or it can be pleasurably invigorating. It can trigger curiosity of what will happen next, or an instant desire to retreat back to what is safe. All of these experiences are normal. Socrates said, “Change is the only constant.” Though it’s expected, it still frequently creates mental upheaval.

Achieving Great Results

Individual’s who have great success, get it because they have passion, a vision and take repeated action. They do what’s needed and a bit more.

“Achieving extraordinary results comes from what you do, after you’ve done all you were supposed to do, that was expected of you.”

The vast majority of people just do their jobs. They know what’s expected of them, and they do that. It’s a rarity for people to go the extra foot, let alone the extra mile. But if you watch people who excel, you’ll notice that they have energy for doing their job. They get a charge out of it, and have a clear picture of where they are going.

Last In, First Out

I’m writing this after receiving an email from a gentleman who has applied this strategy for only one week, and is raving about the results he’s gotten in that short time. He wrote, “Larry, I can’t believe what an amazing, positive change I feel in only one week. I’ve told my wife, kids and co-workers about this. I wish I’d known this 20 years ago.”

Have you ever wished you were better at a job, sport or hobby? Did you ever struggle to improve at a skill but it was so slow to develop you got discouraged? Have you ever told yourself that there must be an easier way to build competency in a task? Have unwanted emotions hung around and you couldn’t snap out of them? Well, here’s a way to diminish the things that bother you, and expand the skills and feelings you want.

An Awareness

A foreign student attending college in America, asked his grandfather from Eastern Europe to come and visit him. When grandfather arrived, the two spent the next few days seeing the town and touring the campus. On the day before his grandfather was to leave, the student asked his grandfather to meet him at the cafeteria when he finished his morning classes.

The grandfather arrived a little early and sat down at an empty table and waited for someone to take his order, but nobody did. Finally, a student with her tray of food sat down opposite him and they began to talk. She learned he was waiting for a server, so she informed him how the cafeteria worked.

If You Knew You Wouldn’t Fail

What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?

The biggest barrier to the achievement of our dreams is our own self-doubt — our insecurities. It’s our fears. It’s the way we project negatives into what’s coming. In many cases, we seek out our past failures and drag them into the present–and then toss them out into our unwritten future.

Most children are quite light-hearted and free. Our aunts and uncles, our mothers and fathers, and other people we listen to and believe, tell us we can do anything. In many aspects of our young lives we feel limitless. We take risks. We try new physical activities without worrying about how we look while we’re doing it. We draw pictures and appreciate our art just because it was fun and it filled a little bit of our time. We walked up to strangers, introduced ourselves, and immediately become friends. We just allowed ourselves to be the best that we could be, because our doubts didn’t overly inhibit us.

Attitude Makes a Difference

Do you ever worry that things are just too tough? Ever feel overwhelmed, or that you’re carrying a heavy load? Do you ever wonder how you can handle the strong emotions that just erupt inside? Or have you ever done something that was stupid, or gotten yourself in a jam, and you just don’t know if you can handle what may come as a result of it? Take just a moment right now, and let’s look at a way that can help you manage the tough spots.

In 1895, the German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche was dealing with the death of his best friend. While going through the process of handling the grief and loss of this life-long friend, Nietzsche made this statement, “If this doesn’t kill me, it shall surely make me stronger.“ On later reflection back into this great loss and how he handled it, he found he really did feel stronger and more able to cope with other tough situations that arose later in his life. This phrase has helped millions cope with tough times (me included.)
