Uncertainty — A Barrier to Achievement

A major mental block many people commonly experience is uncertainty.

Uncertainty can show up as confusion, hesitation, lack of decision making or procrastination. In a nutshell, it’s the individual’s uncertainty of what to do.

The inner self-talk of uncertainty is something like, “It might work. Well, I hope it works. But, what if it doesn’t work? Oh no, it’s not working yet. This is terrible! It’s probably not going to work!” On and on……..

The real answer for people who move into uncertainty is diligent research and building knowledge and trust. There is a circular thinking pattern that generates worry, anxiety, tension, frustration, etc.

That upsetting circular thinking pattern where the thoughts are, “What if it changes? What if there’s a problem? What if something happens and I can’t deal with it? What if?” It’s the old “what if” scenario that gets in our way.

“What if” probably generates more worry, anxiety and tension than any other two words in our language, because “what if” sets us up for brilliant statements like “What if I can’t do this? What if something bad happens? What if it doesn’t work the way it’s supposed to or something goes wrong? What if the people don’t pay attention? What if I don’t know what to do? What if I make the wrong judgment?” What if?

From asking yourself lousy questions you will get crummy answers. For example, “I wonder if I can really pull this off?” versus “What can I do now to ensure this will work?” Or, “How will I ever get through this?” Versus “What’s my step-by-step plan, and what needs to be done first to make this happen?”

All questions do important things. First, they focus your mind in a specific direction. If you are thinking about peanut butter, you’re not thinking about Christmas. Or, if you’re thinking about Christmas or Hanukkah, you’re probably not wondering if your shoes are too tight. Your mind goes the direction your questions send it. Ask a question about peanut butter—your mind follows the “peanut butter track”, not all the other possible tracks it could follow. Questions focus the mind in one specific direction.

The second thing all questions do is they focus on either positive or negative. They focus on either possibility and positive thinking, or they focus on negative and how things won’t work out. So make sure the questions you ask yourself send you in the right direction because uncertainty, confusion, hesitation, lack of decision making or procrastination inhibit your proactiveness.

Break through the mental block of uncertainty or you will waffle in lack of accomplishment. To attain your goals you need to maintain a laser focus on the outcome you desire. Make your dreams a reality–erase uncertainty.

Here is a powerful way you can break through uncertainty and take your success to a greater level. Check out how at >>> “The Big Goals System–Learn from the Masters of Goal Success” www.DrLarryIverson.com/products/made-for-success/big-goals-system.html
