Give Yourself An Edge

Would you like a method to guarantee you’ll never fail to make a strong presentation? Never miscommunicate? Never irritate the people around you? Here’s how…. Never pick-up the phone; never walk-in the clients door; never make a presentation, never ask them to buy. This is guaranteed to make you a success at failure.

Here’s a better option for inter-action success. In 1995, Cambridge School of Business concluded a research project which was to determine the primary career success factors. They took into account product knowledge, education, referrals, marketing, type of products, and much more. What they found was that each item analyzed was important, but one trait was by far the most significant–congruent enthusiasm. (Meaning it’s real, not faking it.)

Cambridge said 51% of the success in approaching people, building rapport, handling objections and negotiating was determined by the person’s ability to transfer his/her enthusiasm to their client. Obviously you must know what you are talking about and have a reasonable approach. But, your ability to get the person excited about doing business with you will only happen if you are enthused about the opportunity first.

There are two parts to creating and maintaining enthusiasm: 1. Knowledge about your field and its benefits to your employees or customers, and 2. Your ability to put yourself in an enthused state at any time. Both of these require knowledge–both are within your control.

The easiest way to quickly get into an enthusiastic state of mind and body right now, is to vividly re-create mental images of successes you’ve experienced in the past and bring that energy into the present. You can transfer the “state of enthusiasm” from one area of your life into other areas. If you felt enthused, confident and unstoppable during a golf game you can link that to other areas.

The Strategy: Recall the “success scene” as vividly and clearly as possible. See the scene both out of your own eyes (as if you are there), and also as if you were an outside observer looking at you and the others “over there”. Hear an excited internal dialogue of what you heard when you were actually there. Feel the atmosphere of that experience. Build it up! THEN, while you are seeing, hearing, feeling, reliving that exciting experience–switch from this success scene to the new scene where you’d like this enthused feeling to also be!

This will begin transferring that positive feeling to your desired place. Switch back and forth (success scene to new scene) a number of times and soon you’ll have linked-up this enthusiasm into a new area. Doing this, you can snap yourself into an enthused state for any aspect of your job–even managing bad news. (Read this strategy at least once more, so you understand the details more fully. Do this process a few times right now. This works if you master it!)

You’ll feel the internal shift immediately when you run through this process. The more you do it, the more you’ll understand and be able to use it. This is a great process to do just before you launch into the actual work. Your subconscious gets this best if done in the spirit of play.

Generating enthusiasm is a prime trait of the highly successful. No one is enthused every moment. Yet during those times when you need it most, you can draw it up from within yourself.

Napoleon Hill said, “Anything the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” Focus on what you want, not on what you don’t want. You are a magnet for what ever you focus on most. Focus on failing and rejection, you’ll get it; focus on goals, enthusiasm and success and that will be yours. By taking on the attitudes and actions of the highly successful you are conditioning yourself to become one of them. The choice is yours. Enthusiasm is your key!
