Pay Attention While Taking Action

“The chief danger in life is that you may take too many precautions.” Dr. Alfred Adler (1870-1937)

Too many precautions—sounds ominous doesn’t it. Well, it is….

Too many precautions is often the result of fear. Just think about those things you’d like to do, or tell yourself “Yeah, someday I’ll do that.” Often the wait or the lack of doing is the result of fear.

Have you ever heard the saying, “The road of ‘someday’ leads to the town of no where.”

All too often we just don’t move when needed. Do you ever know there’s something needing doing, but you feel fear about doing it. You may know it’s to your benefit, but there’s this little nagging voice in your head the discourages you?

Fear of the unknown is a barrier for most people. It makes them hesitate or put things off. Unfortunately for most—the fear doesn’t go away or ever diminish enough, so they never quite get to that thing they want to do. That’s a shame.

Precautions frequently result in procrastination. This is a danger, because we never get started. It’s too big. It’s too hard. The step-by-step process hasn’t been put together so the start never occurs. Fear of what could happen regularly waylays the attempt.

If you are taking too many precautions, take one of the things you’ve been putting off, and begin to break it into little steps. Then decide which step is first—and take some small step now. Start this very day!

‘Someday’ will never come without small steps toward your desired destination. Decide what your step is—and move—now!
