Moving On From This

Psychologically, when you accept that and say, okay that is the worst that can happen, can I deal with it? Yes I can deal with it, and I will move on. When you do that, you release your mental and your physical energy. When you have accepted the worst, when you have nothing more to lose that means you now have a whole bunch to can gain. The worst is over, good things are to come.

When you are at the bottom of the barrel, the only way is up–right? You immediately relax. This acceptance gives you peace. You can move forward, you can make it a better day.

It makes sense doesn’t it? Think about it. Have there ever been people who made it through terrible times and bounced back because they refuse to accept that the worst is where they are going to stay? They refuse to not improve on what’s happened. They refuse to not salvage themselves for the wreck that has occurred.

Instead, they reconstruct their lives, their fortunes, their families, their physical health, their vibrancy, and they move forward.

This is possible. You can do this. The only person that can stop you is you, and you are not going to stop you. You will move you forward. By living in day focused timeframes, even when the bad stuff happens, you can then let it be and move on.

Once you accept the situation and quit terrifying yourself over it, new ideas and creativity present themselves to you. It comes out in a way you may not have even thought of. When you are only worried and dug into the worst, you are stuck. To get out of stuck, begin to brainstorm. Begin to think, “Alright. If this is the situation and this is the bad that can happen, that’s just what is. I don’t like it, it may be scary and even painful, but I can accept it. Now I am going to move on.”

Proactiveness is Key

There is a story told about the beginning of Andrew Carnegie’s career. He was having a lot of push back from people saying they didn’t want to see this young upstart take over the steel industry worldwide. There were a number of people trying to sink him. Even some people working for him were trying to sink him because they were jealous. They didn’t believe it was possible.

So Carnegie one morning awakened to find himself lacking a huge sum of money he needed to make payroll. He said what is the worst that could possibly happen? He thought they may walk off and I will not be able to make steel and I will not be able to make any more money.

If they walk off, can I train people? Can I come back? If that happens, can I accept that people might walk out of here? And the answer is ‘yes’ I can accept that. I can then go out and find more people. And then when I’ve done that, I can improve on the worst that has happened to me and I will move forward.

Carnegie was basically using Dr. James process.

You ask yourself, number one, what is the worst that can happen? Number two, you begin to move into and accept the potential problem and what might happen–so be it. And then thirdly, improve on that tough time that has come around and begin to take action at this moment because it’s a new moment.

This is taking a negative, doing what you can, and focusing on the positive.

There’s not a part of your life that you can’t do this in. Whether its difficulties in relationships, at work, wherever, you can accept what is and improve on whatever has occurred to move you into an ever better day. By living in this day focused timeframes you do what you can today, right now, in this moment–proactively.
