What if the person you live with, who is normally fairly punctual, is quite late or someone to your meeting is late, or doesn’t show up at all for your dinner. If you’re in a resourceful state, you probably feel less concerned. You won’t worry about whether they’re really late or how late they are, it’s not going to bother you as much, or you won’t be as concerned about “I wonder if they could have had an accident.” It’s true, something could have happened to that person but the chances are nothing has. So getting yourself all worked up, getting stressed out, becoming scared is not going to help you or them.

Focusing on the negative will lead you to feel down, angry, or scared. What kind of interaction do you think you’ll have when they finally make it? Chill yourself! Remaining resourceful mentally and physically promotes your ability to deal more effectively with what comes up.

The chances of having a fulfilling experience in your interactions will increase as you stay positive and in self-control. The old adage, “Act enthusiastic if you want to be enthusiastic” is true. It is one part of a formula for personal success. You may not be enthused they’re late but you don’t have to treat it as if it’s the end of the world because it’s not that either.

When you breathe deeply, when you stand up straight, strong, walk with a spring in your step, keep your chin up, hold your head high, you feel more powerful. This doesn’t mean you should look like a snob with your nose in the air, or cocky. It means that you take control of how you’re using your physiology and align it with the power and movement and models of health, vitality, and energy.

The Inner Game

You’ve heard of the inner game of tennis or the inner game of golf? This is the inner game of mind management. The majority of people do not know how to do this. Now you do. You’re learning it at this moment in time and to apply it will take you steps beyond what you dreamed.

You are a collaborator in creating excellence in your life, in your behaviors, in those things that are important to you. Living with passion enhances all of your relationships and the amount of fun you can have, the amount of success you can have, the fulfillment you experience.

Let’s say you model closely what someone else is doing and you don’t get the exact same results. What has been proven repeatedly is if you create inner images of success or you mentally talk to yourself in a positive way like they do, you use your physiology, using your feelings and your beliefs to congruently align them together and you persist, you hang in there, you work at it, you refine, you take action, you think about it, what worked what didn’t, you refine it, you refine it, you refine it, and you keep after it, you can achieve the goals you desire!

There’s a formula Dr. Robert Dilts created. He said:

A Resourceful State + Plan + Corrected Actions = Goal Accomplishment

Having a resourceful state, plus a plan, plus correct actions (corrected actions means, I take action on my plan and then I look at what worked, what didn’t, I throw out what didn’t work, add in some new things, then go at it again) equals I will achieve the goal I desire.

Creating a highly fulfilling and successful personal and professional life is within your reach. But if you choose not to sustain the drive necessary to achieve your goal you’ll be swept away through currents that may or may not take you where you desire. The accomplishment in your life is directly related to how resourceful you are and how resourceful you can keep yourself even in tough times.

Most people can generate motivation temporarily, but you need to do it more consistently. Yes maybe they can start themselves once in a while, but with the motivation formula plus using your physiology, you have the power to make your dreams a reality. You can be consistently passionate, proactive, achieving the things you desire and feeling great in the process.

These strategies you just learned will allow you to be on top of your game. You can have your heart’s desire. You have to take good care of yourself in your mind, in your physiology, to achieve those goals you desire.

Cesare Pavese said, “We do not remember days, we remember moments.”

Dr. William James said, “Believe that life is worth living and your beliefs will help create the fact.”

Einstein said, “A person who’s never made a mistake has never tried anything new. Make lots of experiments, all life is an experiment. Some experiments fail, some work, but if you keep going you can have whatever you desire!”

Keep going. Focus on what you want. Move yourself forward; make a difference for yourself and for those who count on you.

You can be, you can do, you can achieve whatever you desire. Step up. Get control over your brain. Move yourself forward and build the life you desire. What you do today is building the tomorrow you hope for.
