Andrew Carnegie said, “Think of yourself as on the threshold of unparalleled success. A whole clear, glorious life lies before you. Achieve! Achieve!”

Edward Noyes Westcott said, “The only person who can’t change their mind is a person who hasn’t got one.”

Franklin Delano Roosevelt said, “The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith.”

The Beginnings of Success

There are things that we can do to bring more harmony into our lives. One thing is to work on building more success through those things we do. We need to enhance our confidence. There is an article written for The Atlantic magazine by Katy Kay and Claire Shipman, the authors of The Confidence Code.

They found that low confidence results in inaction. Taking action bolsters one’s belief in our ability to succeed. They said, “Confidence accumulates through hard work, success, even through failure you can build your confidence. And as you do so, you feel more at peace within yourself because of the actions you are taking.” Even if they are not always successful you can still build harmony, peace, and power within yourself.

We also need to be authentic. Authenticity is a much sought after leadership trait, people can tell if you are being real or if you are not. When you own what you are doing and people can see that you are acting from your own source, they feel better about you. They are more willing to follow you.

Dr. Herminia Ibarra in the Harvard Business Review wrote an article titled The Authenticity Paradox. It states that people want you to be real. Yet, what they found was when you talk about your failures, people tend to lose confidence in you. You can say a little but don’t go too far. Talk instead about what you can do, what you will do, how you can do to help them. That role helps you be more real and helps other’s buy in also.

One of the things that also needs to be done to build harmony and feel better about who we are is to improve our social skills. According to research conducted by UC Santa Barbara economist Catherine Weinberger, “The most successful business people excel in both cognitive ability and in social skills.”

That has not always been true. We find that more and more people need to be both smart and strong. People who are both smart and socially adept earn more in today’s workforce than they did before 1980.
