Accomplish It With Enthusiasm!

Part 8 of 12 from Qualities of Highly Successful People

(continued from last week…)

#6 – Passion & Enthusiasm

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Nothing great is ever accomplished without enthusiasm.” If you want to succeed, if you want to live a great life, energy and passion is at the core.

You have to have energy, enthusiasm, passion, drive, and desire to get out there and go for it. Thomas Edison said, “Achievement is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.” You have to get out there and make it happen.

Think about a five or a six year old playing. Think about that energy, that passion, that enthusiasm, the excitement for the moment. Doing things that many of us may just deem very inconsequential but to them it is a game, it’s fun, it’s exciting, its making something happen.

When you work with same level of enthusiasm as your five old has for their play, you will achieve great things, you will truly move mountains. But it is having that energy, that enthusiasm, that passion that makes the difference.

Al Hafed’s initial enthusiasm and passion for diamonds drove him, but he didn’t know what he was doing. He did not have understanding, he did not have knowledge and because of that he lost everything. Passion and enthusiasm blended with knowledge and understanding can achieve significant results.

Col. Sanders

Harland Sanders had a very successful restaurant in Corbin, Kentucky. It was a combination of restaurant and a gas station. He had done well and made significant amount of money from it.

He had a passion for this one specific recipe – this chicken recipe that he had created. However, in the 1950s a new interstate highway was planned that bypassed Corbin. His restaurant went out of business, he tried to hang in there but he lost everything, After paying off as many of his bills as he could he was reduced to living on his $105 a month social security check.

He was confident though about the quality of his great chicken. At 62 years old, Harland Sanders devoted himself to franchising his chicken. He drove all over the country cooking up batches in motels and served it to restaurant owners around the country trying to get them to buy a franchise to make it.

The reaction was favorable but he just couldn’t get anybody to buy-in. He was turned down over a thousand times before somebody finally bought a franchise. It was bought on a handshake. Within a matter of 10 years there were over 600 franchised outlets for Kentucky Fried Chicken around the United States. His passion, his enthusiasm, combined with a good product won the day.

Passion and enthusiasm make all the difference.
