(…continued from last week)

Failure can actually move us further down the road because it’s only failure if you stop. If you gain from it, instead of failure it’s learning.

Edison said, “I failed my way to success.”

Vince Lombardi said, “Failure is only failure when I stop trying.”

So long as you’re moving, you have not failed. Unless you allow yourself mistakes, and have things go opposite of what you had hoped, you’re not going to grow, you’re not going to learn, you can’t achieve. You must realize that if you are experiencing no difficulties, no problems, no pains, you probably either aimed too low or you’re not going to be getting where you really want to go. So think of mistakes as a positive sign.

Sometimes troubles come up—that’s part of life. Frequently, things get worse on the way to things getting better. Things sometimes are painful as we’re moving forward. That doesn’t mean no pain, no gain, but it does mean that sometimes pain may come with the territory. If it does, don’t be shocked. Look at it, deal with it, keep moving. Keep the vision of your goal, know where you’re going and keep moving towards that.

It May Get Messy

Halfway through a surgery, it looks like someone has been murdered in an operating room. Yet, it’s not. That person is taking that risk, having an operation which can save their life.

We have to allow some of the messiness to occur. At the onset, you may feel great because you’re going for it. That’s good. But there will be struggles along the way. Sometimes things don’t go completely smoothly. When it stops going smoothly, take a breath, chill yourself a bit and keep moving. You have to do that. You have to jump in. You don’t give up.

Failure belongs here. All it means is that you’re doing something, you’re giving it a shot. It also is an opportunity or learning experience. So look for it. When you see something that isn’t working, slow down, take a breath, ask what else can I do to get where I want to go?

Failure can be a resource. It’s the edge of your capabilities. Quantum leaps jerk you out of your comfort zone. It can be a wild ride. It’s like being on a roller coaster. Yet without that wild ride you can’t move forward into an ever-better future. It just doesn’t happen. They don’t reside in the same territory. The normal reaction is you want to hold on tightly to the way things are. But you’re going to have to learn to let go.

Discomfort Happens

The Science of You is achieved through release. You learn to jump. You learn to kick it out. You learn to step up. Don’t be surprised if you grow uneasy. That’s normal. That little bit of uncomfortableness and anxiety is part of the process. When you take that leap, when you ride that roller coaster, you’re not really in control. You’re not really out of control either, but you’re really not in control. You have to know where you’re going, continue to take action and learn from your mistakes.

If you experience no anxiety or discomfort, then the risk you’re taking probably isn’t a very big one because if it was big enough to make you nervous it’s something new. That play it safe thing can be a good idea sometimes, but if you really want to make those quantum leaps, those big steps in your life, you have to step up to go for it. This will carry you beyond commonplace. Everyday habits, everyday doing, will not take you where you want to go.

It’s been said that if you do one thing you fear, the death of fear is certain. Courage is not the absence of fear; it’s acting even if you have fear. Go for it. Step up. Keep moving. Don’t stop. It’s up to you to make things happen.

David Lloyd George said, “Don’t be afraid to take a big step if one is indicated. You can’t cross a chasm in two small jumps.”

John Wayne said, “Courage is being scared to death and saddling up and riding out anyway.”

Joshua Henry Jones said, “None of us are responsible for our birth. Our responsibility is the use we make of life.”

You have talents. You have gifts. You have possibilities you have never even touched yet. These gifts and abilities are within your reach, but you have to stretch out and grab them.
