#7 – It’s Up To You
Psychological researcher, Dr. Abraham Maslow, talked about the “hierarchy of needs”.
The first need is biological and physiological needs. You have to have shelter, you need to be able to stay warm and be able to cool off when needed, you need to have water, you need to have air, you need to have food, you need to sleep, these are basic needs. You must have those things to live.
Next is safety needs. You have to feel safe and secure. You have to be able to know you’ll be ok.

#6 – Passion & Enthusiasm
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Nothing great is ever accomplished without enthusiasm.” If you want to succeed, if you want to live a great life, energy and passion is at the core.
You have to have energy, enthusiasm, passion, drive, and desire to get out there and go for it. Thomas Edison said, “Achievement is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.” You have to get out there and make it happen.
Think about a five or a six year old playing. Think about that energy, that passion, that enthusiasm, the excitement for the moment. Doing things that many of us may just deem very inconsequential but to them it is a game, it’s fun, it’s exciting, its making something happen.

#5 – Integrity
This shouldn’t have to be said, but integrity is one of the very most important attributes that you can cultivate.
Honesty is the best policy. Having integrity creates character and defines who you are. Integrity makes a difference for yourself and for the people you work with. If you cannot believe in someone and you cannot see how you can work together with them, integrity has broken down.
An example – Have you ever had a boss that you work with who was changeable day to day? One day they were great, they were behind you, they were supportive; the next day they were blasting you for things you didn’t even know where they came from; the day after that they were despondent; the day after that they needed your support; the day after that they were happy and they were all friendly again.

#4 – Patience
You have to be willing to be patient. You have to understand that in everything, there are failures, there are frustrations, sometimes things go more easily, sometimes they go slower and harder.
To take the speed at which things evolve personally, would be a detriment to you and to your achievements. You have to take the time, you have to slow down and pay attention.
In doing therapy or coaching, quite often people will start to make progress and as they do they say, “I want to do it faster. I want it more. I want it better. I want it right now!” And there is something to be said for having that desire to succeed, that desire to achieve, that desire to overcome and move forward – that’s a great thing.

#3 – Stickability
This is that staying power that makes the difference. P. T. Barnum was one of the greatest showmen to ever live and by far one of the most successful salesman, created the phrase stickability. He meant – you hang in there, you have the strength to see things through, you don’t vacillate, you don’t procrastinate, you go for it. When you want it, you make it happen.
The world’s greatest achievers are those who have focused on their goals and been consistent in their efforts, stickability.
Did you ever have skills you needed to gain to run certain kinds of tools or to manage and handle certain types of technology? It didn’t happen instantly, did it? No, it happened because of stickability, you stayed in there, and kept after it, you thought about it, you probably had some errors but you kept working at it.

#2 – Self-Reliance
One of the best definitions of accountability and reliance I’ve heard is acting from what is termed “proprietary interest”.
If you think about back to the days of the old west, who was the proprietor of the general store? Normally it was person who owned the store because it was a fairly small operation, usually just one person running it or maybe a man and a woman together – husband and wife, but they were self-reliant and accountable. They were the proprietors.

Launching Your Success
Though Al Hafed had many qualities of success, some of them he had perverted and they ultimately ended in his demise.
You don’t need to fall in to the traps he did. You have the power and the ability to make your life whatever you desire it to be. So, let’s begin to look for a moment, what some of these qualities are of the highly successful.
#1 – Drive
You have to have the determination to work harder than most and make sure things get done. You pride yourself on seeing things getting completed and you take charge when necessary. You drive yourself with purpose and you align yourself with excellence.

He said, “I want a mine of diamonds.” And so he lay awake all night and early in the morning he sought out the priest.
“Will you tell me where I can find these diamonds?” he said to the priest.
The priest said, “Diamonds! What do you want with diamonds?”
“Well, I wish to be immensely rich!” said Al Hafed. “But I don’t know where to go.”
“Well” said the priest, “If you will find a river that runs over white sand, between high mountains, in those white sands you will see diamonds.”
“Do you really believe there is such a river?”
“There are plenty of them. All you have to do is to go and find one, and then you have them.”
Al Hafed said, “I will go.”
